Microsemi, a subsidiary of Microchip Technology (NASDAQ:MCHP), announced the PolarFire FPGA Burst Mode Receiver (BMR) solution, which says it can design 10G PON optical line termination (OLT) factors in the form of optical transceivers. Its FPGA is the only product that enables 10G PON OLT functionality to fit SFP or XFP optical modules.
According to Microchip, PolarFire FPGAs using BMR can operate with extremely low power consumption and extreme thermal conditions. It has the fastest lock time (10.8 ns) and is also suitable for PON mid-range FPGAs.
Shakeel Peera, vice president of FPGA marketing for Microchip's Programmable Solutions business unit, said: "The PolarFire FPGA BMR solution is the way we design 10G PON application rule changers because it fundamentally changes the way they architecture, deploy and maintain systems. Microchip also offers complementary chips such as the SY88029L Burst Mode Limiting Amplifier. The burst mode signal detection time of the SY88029L is less than 7 nanoseconds, which fully meets the XGS-PON and NG-PON2 timing requirements.
