AJC Completes Major Upgrades To Submarine Cable Systems With Infinera's Solutions
Jan 11, 2019

ICCSZ (Compilation: Vicki) Infinera announced the completion of a major upgrade to the Australia-Japan (AJC) submarine cable system connecting Australia and Guam, Japan. By upgrading its Infinera DTN-X network with Infinera's fourth-generation optical engine, the ICE4 (Unlimited Capacity Engine), AJC tripled its capacity on its 12,700-kilometer submarine cable system. The network upgrade also provides 60% life extension capacity for AJC's transpacific cable system.

AJC first deployed Infinera's subsea solution in 2014. The recent ICE4 capacity upgrade was implemented without service disruption and enabled AJC to quickly activate new capacity for Infinera Instant Bandwidth customers. Instant Bandwidth allows AJC to quickly activate and pay for additional capacity when needed, reducing initial deployment costs and most upfront business risk.

Australia - Japan Cable CEO David Crofts said: "Infinera's latest optical engine, ICE4, enables AJC to easily add more capacity to each fiber pair. ICE4 performance from Infinera to our DTN-X network outperforms This enables AJC to easily provide multi-terabit capacity with low power consumption and the reliability required for subsea networks."

Andrew Bond-Webster, vice president of sales at Infinera, said: "We are pleased to work with AJC as they expand their network capacity by deploying Infinera's high-performance ICE4 optical engine. Infinera's subsea solutions reduce lead times and provide customers such as AJC The ability to quickly activate new capacity and reliably restore customer service in the event of a submarine cable failure."
